In April – May 2022 Blue Shield in Denmark provided humanitarian aid to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. It’s over 10 tons of materials, 14 917 pieces at all. There are equipment for proper storage of museum items, tools and materials for restoration work and packaging materials among this aid.
Part of the humanitarian aid was transferred to the other Ukrainian museums. Mostly it’s the local museums in Ukraine’s northeast, that were under russian occupation in February – April 2022. They are situated mainly in Sumy region, Kharkiv region, Chernihiv region, Kyiv region. For example, some materials were sent to Okhtyrka Local Museum, which was ruined so much after russian attack. Also, we helped Vasyl Tarnovsky Chernihiv Historical Museum, Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum, Mid-Dnipro Museum of Folk Architecture and Life (Pereiaslav) and not only.

We shared the materials from Denmark with our colleagues in Kyiv. There are National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”, Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art Museum and National Conservation Area “Sophia of Kyiv” among them.
russian invaders want to destroy Ukrainian cultural heritage deliberately. Since the full-scale war against Ukraine started, museum workers have been rescuing culture and history of the country. And received aid is so important to protect our heritage.
The Blue Shield is an independent, neutral, non-governmental, non-profit, international organisation which strives to protect heritage during armed conflicts and disasters across the world. In 2021 it consisted of 29 national committees operating across the world, with more under construction.
The team of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine thanks to our partners in Denmark for the huge support of Ukrainian culture!
